U.S. News & World Report of national universities list for 2017, compared more than 1800 institutions to determine the best national universities, best value schools and best liberal arts college. This U.S news list is considered one of the most plausible college rankings, has reported Princeton University as the top ranking university. Princeton has topped the list since 2013 and Harvard University being at the second place, followed by others.

The magazine surveys more than 1800 colleges in America for its annual list and for the sixth straight year, Princeton University was named No. 1 in the “best national universities” category. Under the rankings method, eligible schools are sorted into categories like national universities and regional colleges. The top college is calculated up to 15 indicators of academic excellence, such as freshman retention, faculty resources, class size, student-to-faculty ratio, graduation rate, expert opinions, incoming student SAT/ACT scores and alumni giving.
