Thanksgiving

turkeyI just heard that Walmart is opening at 6:00 pm and that the line will be starting at 10:00 am. At those times, I’m figuring that Thanksgiving dinner needs to take place at 6:00 AM in order to get any of the bargains. It looks like a traditional home cooked turkey will be replaced with a McDonald’s breakfast at those hours. Walmart is not alone, either. Kmart is opening at 6:00 am while J.C. Penny and a host of other stores are opening at 8:00 pm.

Realistically, these retail stores are taking away the family gathering of Thanksgiving. The workers are lured into work with incentives like double pay and my family is lured to the store by the sales. Whatever happened to this great holiday? Now everything about Thanksgiving seems to be about shopping and getting great deals. Seriously, can’t retailers just leave this holiday alone?
